Website trends for 2022.
Although we have provided some of the website trends expected for 2022, it’s not to say that every site should incorporate every trend. Firstly, it wouldn’t be possible as some of them completely conflict! Plus it’s important to only adapt and change what suits your business and brand. It may be that some or even none of these will work for you, but it’s always interesting to see what the trends are expected to be and if there are any fresh elements that could work for your website…
Interaction, animation, and dynamic experiences are the norm with apps; bringing energy and creating unique experiences, so we are expecting to see an increased sense of playfulness in web design with humour incorporated into the copy, images, navigation, menus and interactions. Puzzles and scavenger hunts can be used to introduce a new product or provide some hidden information with passwords provided for answering clues to unlock pages.
Low contrast, monochrome, minimalist styles keeping everything very low key and simple.
We have seen the increasing popularity of one-page websites for small businesses with simple scroll navigation. They work really well for businesses that are presenting a single idea.
Split-screen layouts provide a great opportunity to be playful with colour and offer contrast, visual interest, and natural separation of content.
Art deco design with inspiration taken from the clean, curving lines and repetitive shapes of the art deco era being incorporated into areas such as logos, fonts and illustrations.
A focus on content for a big impact without the distraction of multiple images overloading any spaces, using bold and unusual or moving typography to capture attention. Gender-neutral and inclusive copy to make sites more welcoming and accessible to more people.
Photography of cities, towns, and natural places around where businesses/owners/team members are based.
Collage style photography with white open space helps to mix shapes, colours and patterns and adding tints or filers to images will help them to blend within your overall site design.
Adding grains to gradients for texture and a more natural look and feel.
Linework and abstract illustrations with the appearance of being hand-drawn are becoming popular, another nod to the natural style that an increasing number of people are looking for.
These trends are by no means comprehensive but it’s interesting to see many elements that we have incorporated into some of our own designs over recent months.
As designers, we are always looking around us for inspiration, it’s everywhere – from the sky to the sea, buildings to people, magazines to websites – we are all constantly evolving and changing and that’s a beautiful thing. Although we’re interested to note some of these trends, as mentioned at the start, they won’t suit everyone or every business so we will always design based on what best suits both the business and end-user. Style and substance in equal measure.
